Mission: The Portland Schools Foundation is an independent, community-based organization that mobilizes ideas, leadership, political support, and money necessary to ensure a world-class education for every child, in every public school, in every Portland neighborhood.
Strategies
Our vision is to ensure that every young person in Portland is prepared for college, work, and citizenship. The Schools Foundation works in two ways to help the community and schools develop and implement strategies to achieve this vision.
Mobilizing Our Community: Increase public understanding and engage the community to ensure all young people succeed in college, work, and citizenship. We will do this by:
- Marshaling the resources of parents, citizens, and businesses to improve our middle and high schools.
- Expanding options for struggling students and out-of-school youth.
- Recruiting civic, business and community leaders into our public schools.
Supporting excellent teaching and learning: Support innovations to promote equity and excellence in public education by:
- Investing in Portland area public schools to close the achievement gap.
- Shining a light on already in place in classrooms and schools.
"The Schools Foundation inspires all of us to settle for nothing less than the best for the children of Portland." Mary Beth Van Cleave, grandparent
and retired principal, Portland
