First Octave Grants

The Portland Schools Foundation’s First Octave Grants are designed to strengthen the quality of public education, specifically in the area of art and music, for students in the Centennial, David Douglas, Parkrose, Portland Public, and Reynolds School Districts. The First Octave Grants are specifically focused on supporting arts and music education for Portland’s children and youth with a goal of increasing access for underserved/underrepresented students and schools. The Portland Schools Foundation receives contributions in support of the First Octave Fund from individuals, foundations, and businesses, reflecting the strong support of the community for strengthening art and music in the schools.

The First Octave Fund was established in 1997. The First Octave Fund has infused more than $215,000 into public schools throughout Portland, meeting a need that would otherwise go unmet.
