Schools-Families-Housing Community Grants Program

In response to the need to the need to support and strengthen connections between schools and the community, the Portland City Council created a partnership with the Portland Schools Foundation to establish the Schools-Families-Housing Community Grants program.

This one-time grant pool of $850,000 is supported by the City of Portland as part of the larger Schools-Families-Housing citywide initiative. The program is designed to attract and keep more young people in our city’s public schools. The grants will focus on two areas of greatest impact:

• increasing the ability and incentives for students and families to attend and stay in their schools, and
• demonstrably strengthening connections between schools and neighborhoods.

The Community Grants program builds upon research on student and family connection to schools, including family demographic and economics, housing affordability, enrollment trends for school districts serving Portland families, and Connected By 25’s research on student demographics and retention.

In Round 1, $425, 000 was awarded to seven applicants.  Round 2 recipients will be announced this summer.
