The Portland Schools Foundation’s PPS Community-based Equity Grants are designed to support vital partnerships between schools and community organizations in order to strengthen the quality of public education for students in the Portland Public School District. Community-based Equity Grants are particularly focused on supporting community and family involvement in the education of our youth with a goal of increasing success for underserved and underrepresented students and schools. Since 1997, the Portland Schools Foundation has partnered with the parent fundraising community in Portland Public Schools to bridge the funding gap in schools. Because of the generous donations of parents and their communities, more than $2.7 million was raised in 2009, of which $244,000* will be distributed for the 2010-11 school year.
PPS Community-based grants are awarded to a wide spectrum of organizations that have a strong tie to PPS schools, and that support youth pursuing academic excellence at critical transitions ranging from pre-K through high school. A minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $25,000 is awarded to selected applicants.
