Faced with high drop out rates and wide achievement gaps in the city's high schools, the Portland Schools Foundation, in partnership with the Portland Public School District, invests time, staff, and money to re-think, re-design, and strengthen high schools and middle schools.
2006-2007 goals include:
Researching the right indicators to measure our progress in increasing highschool graduation rates and decreasing dropouts;
Building a coalition of business, civic, community, and education leaders committed to action to increase youth success;
Exploring innovative ways for educators and community members from universities, community colleges, and businesses to partner in offering options outside the traditional high school setting and curriculum;
In partnership with the Oregon Business Council, convening organizations from around the state working on high school reform to share strategies and help design a common state policy agenda.
